"Downton Abbey" is moving forward with season 6 and it will be set in 1925, six months after the events of season 5. Lady Rose and her husband Atticus have relocated to the United States and Tom Bronston will now be staying in Boston, Massachusetts.
They will no longer be in the show as regular cast members but are expected to drop in every now and then as guest appearances.
According to an interview by Zap2It, Lily James, who portrays the character Lady Rose, had to leave most of the season's production due to her involvement in the live-action remake of "Cinderella" and wanted to return should the team find a way to write her back in.
"Part of me wants her to like lose her sh-- and come back completely wrecked and a ruined woman, and part of me wants her to keep her happily ever after," Lily James tells Zap2It.
Fans have since speculated that she could make a comeback during the confirmed ninth episode, the "Downton Abbey Christmas Special."
Mirror also reports of production stills indicating that Lady Edith and Lady Mary will be bringing the rest of the crew to the market. Scenes involving the cast were shot in the Wiltshire marketplace. It could be a very small scene or it may become a regular location for the rest of the season.
Season 6 has also been confirmed to be the last season for the multi-award winning show. Variety recently reported that PBS was ending the series, with the Christmas Special being the very last episode.
Gareth Neame, executive producer for the show stated, "We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue, but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up."
Season 6 of "Downton Abbey" is scheduled to premiere in the Fall of 2015, with eight regular episodes and on Christmas Special.
