'Dark Souls 3' DLC release date updates: 'Ashes of Ariandel' to open new world

Dark Souls 3 - Ashes of Ariandel DLC Bandai Namco

A Season Pass is already announced for "Dark Souls 3," so post-launch content is already expected by players. Apart from this, it is now revealed that its first downloadable content (DLC), "Ashes of Ariandel," will go live on Oct. 25 with a new environment for players.

In its official announcement, publisher Bandai Namco teased that the new environment may be set in the winter wastelands.

"Return to the world of 'Dark Souls III'I and uncover a terrible secret that lies within an unnamed frozen land. Players will find themselves steeped in a brand new environment filled with terrifying new enemies, challenges, and exciting lore to fill out the overarching 'Dark Souls III' storyline," the post narrated, talking about the new challenges that the players can expect to face in-game.

The upcoming new location is also hinted at in the new trailer for the upcoming DLC. The footage shows the main character exploring a frozen area, bearing a torch. Although the torch's blazing fire is seen as a burning shield against a new enemy wearing heavy armor, it seems that the new opponent still has an ace up his sleeve, as he can call on reinforcements even when fighting.

Aside from a new map added to the "Dark Souls 3" locations, the upcoming expansion content will also add a whole new list of inventory for players. New items include weapons, armor sets, and magic skills. In addition, it is also hinted that the new "Ashes of Ariandel" DLC will come with improvements on its two gameplay modes. It is said that players can expect "new features for the game's wildly popular competitive multiplayer mode."

The new "Ashes of Ariandel" expansion pack will go live on Oct. 25 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Even though it is a part of the game's Season Pass, the new DLC can also be purchased as a stand-alone expansion for $15. The upcoming DLC is hinted to be the first of two planned installments, with the second expansion content coming out early next year.
