Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) of "Criminal Minds" may have been absent in most episodes of the first half of season 11, but the Behavioral Analysis Unit's (BAU) boy genius is set to return this month.

Reid's character went to his hometown in Las Vegas to take care of her ill mother Diana, played by Jane Lynch in previous seasons. He will return in the season 11B episode titled "Entropy."

With Reid's return, he'll finally score a date with a new girl, Cat Adams, and TV Line exclusively revealed that "Parks and Recreation's" Aubrey Plaza will play the role.

According to the news outlet, Reid and Cat will go on a date, but it won't be that pleasant. It was revealed that Cat will unexpectedly pull out a gun on him while they are out in the public dating.

Their date turns sour when Cat tells him that she knows he is an FBI agent. It will then become a tough choice for Reid, when his date makes him choose to save himself or the innocent people in the restaurant with them.

Reid's love life for this season has been hinted in the past, but a deadly date is not something most fans would expect him to have. The last time he had a casual date was with Russian-speaking Agent Dorian Loker (Emily Churchill) from season 10.

The two went out for coffee and fans were quick enough to speculate that Loker might be Reid's next love interest. However, showrunner Erica Messer already cleared such speculations early last year, saying that a Reid–Loker relationship won't happen in season 11.

Messer added that Reid won't be involved in a serious romantic relationship with anyone, but the production might discuss the possibility and "figure it out at some point" this season.

Will Reid's sour date with Cat turn out to be something positive? Or is she going to be just another guest villain in the upcoming episode that Reid needs to take down?

Find out when "Criminal Minds" season 11's midseason premiere airs on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
