'Criminal Minds' season 10 midpremiere spoilers: Reid comforts JJ as she battle her PTSD

Wednesday night's midseason finale episode of "Criminal Minds" season 10 took fans on a crazy ride, as the team chased a fugitive psychopath who was on a murderous streak after spending 12 years in prison for killing and raping his sister.

The plot of the episode was absolutely twisted. The renegade killer was responsible for killing a woman who stopped to see if he was okay, a couple living in the house that he broke in, as well as a security guard who lent him his gun. If that was not enough, the long-time fugitive also planned to re-enact his first crime of murdering and raping a family member when he was a teenager by doing it to his niece.

The episode, which was supposed to be aired a week earlier but was delayed because of the special two-hour episode of "Survivor" season 29, culminated the first half of "Criminal Minds" season 10.

Little is known about next year's midseason premiere of the long-running police procedural drama, but executive producer Erica Messer shared a teaser with TV Guide, saying that the episode will focus on JJ's (AJ Cook) post-traumatic stress disorder that she acquired after she was kidnapped last year. The producer said that JJ will ask for Reid's (Matthew Gray Gubler) help so that she can get through a very tough time in her life.

"I've always loved their friendship and this will bring them closer together," Messer said.

But could this also trigger Reid's own PTSD? The executive producer said that it will not likely happen, since Reid is too focused on JJ's problems to mind his own.

Aside from these details, CBS is still mum about the next assignment of FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) led by Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson).

The opening episode for the second half of "Criminal Minds" season 10 titled "The Forever People" will air on Jan. 14. It is directed by Tawnia McKiernan.
