'Command and Conquer' game rumors: EA's new game secretly in the works?

The "Command and Conquer" (C&C) series, one of the earliest popular real-time strategy (RTS) franchises, bit the dust a few years back. They have made other games since their last "C&C" release, but it rumors say that the developers may be picking up the series once again.

For the most part, the clues leading to this assumption came from Greg Black who worked for Westwood Studios (under EA), the developers of the "C&C" series, and Blizzard where he also worked on StarCraft II. Needless to say, Black is definitely reputable when it comes to the RTS genre.

"Survived my first day back at @EA," he tweeted about a month ago. "It's a weird feeling being back after all this time. Can't wait to show you all what I'm working on." It may seem like any other game, but speculations say that for EA to get him of all people points to the possibility of a new "C&C" game.

Just recently, he again tweeted possibly another clue. "Just discovered the 'C&C' soundtracks are on @amazonmusic," reads the tweet. "I forgot how great the 'Red Alert 3' soundtrack was." It may again seem like he just stumbled upon the music again, but given the previous context, this adds to the theory that Black and EA are working on a new "C&C" title.

As for what that title could be, it might be their project previously called "Generals 2" which, according to GamerBolt, was dropped by EA due to the negative reaction of the community. They have since put the development on pause. Other theories say that Black could also be working on a remake of one of the classics like "Red Alert 1" or even "Generals 1." There are a bunch of remake titles coming up next year, so it is not surprising for EA to do the same.

In other news, Black's former colleagues from Westwood Studios just made a new RTS game with "Forged Battalion" under a new company, "Petroglyph." The game seems reminiscent of the original "C&C" series and is getting early access on Jan. 16, 2018.
