Academy Award winning actor Tommy Lee Jones has just been added to the cast of the currently untitled fifth film in the "Bourne" franchise. According to a report from Variety, the veteran actor has been cast to play a "superior officer for the CIA," similar to roles played by Chris Cooper, Brian Cox, Edward Norton, and David Strathairn in previous "Bourne" films.

Jones is notable for his roles in "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Lincoln," "The Fugitive," and the "Men in Black" films. His most recent project was "The Horseman" which he also wrote and directed.

Other than Jones playing a high ranking CIA officer, no other plot points for the film have yet been released. The film doesn't even have an official title at this point.

Jones will be joining lead actor Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, both of whom decided to sit out of "Bourne Legacy," which was instead directed by Tony Gilroy and starred Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. Damon and Greengrass also worked on the script for the upcoming film, alongside Christopher Rouse.

Julia Stiles is also returning to portray CIA Agent Nicky Parsons and the film will also welcome newcomer Alicia Vikander, most popular for her role in "Ex Machina." Vikander reportedly chose "Bourne 5" instead of taking on the film adaptation of "Assassin's Creed" which is being produced by actor Michael Fassbender.

VIggo Mortensen has not been confirmed as the primary villain for the film but rumors persist that the role has been offered to him. It is unsure at this point if Joan Allen, who played CIA Deputy Director Pamela Landy, will be returning given the importance of her character in "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum."

"Bourne 5" has a tentative release date of July 29, 2016.
