'Batman vs Superman' spoilers: movie to include Doomsday, villain to be prominent in film

Doomsday as seen in the "New 52" DC comics DC Comics

The main villain in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is officially Lex Luthor, played by Jessie Eisenberg, but according to a "Shanlian on Batman" podcast, journalist El Mayimbe (Umberto Gonzales) announced that the monster Doomsday will also be a major villain in the film.

"It's been out there, but it's official. We are going to see Doomsday," El Mayimbe stated during the podcast.

He also reported that the monster looks "incredible," which gives fans a good sign that the character will look very faithful to the design in the comic books.

El Mayimbe explained that Doomsday will act as Lex Luthor's muscle in the film and draws a similarity to how Darth Vader was the physical enemy to Grand Moff Tarkin's cunning in "Stars Wars: A New Hope." It makes sense because as smart as Lex Luthor is, he wouldn't be much of a physical foe against the likes of Superman or Batman.

According to a report from Screen Rant, the rumor of Doomsday being in the film gives light to a previous rumor that started spreading around a few months back, stating that Michael Shannon, who played the villain General Zod in "Man of Steel," would be coming back in "Batman v Superman."

The report explains that Lex Luthor would take Zod's body and experiment on it, eventuallly unleashing the "Doomsday genetic code" that turns the former Kryptonian soldier into a large, formidable monster that could pose a serious threat against Superman.

Fans of the comic books would recognize Doomsday as the only villain to have ever "killed" Superman. During the "Death of Superman" comic series back in the 1990s, Doomsday exchanged blows with the Man of Steel until they ended up killing each other. Both would be resurrected in subsequent years.

The only difference would be Doomsday's origin. In the source material, he isn't Zod brought back to life but a monster created by a scientist who killed and resurrected Doomsday multiple times to turn him into the ultimate killing machine.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
