3 benefits of having a God-fearing spouse

"An excellent wife is the crown of her husband..." (Proverbs 12:4)

A God-fearing spouse is very precious. Husbands married to wives who are totally in love with God are blessed, and vice-versa. When God is the one whom the husband pursues more than any other, his wife finds herself secured, loved, and cherished more than any other person on earth.

This is so true.

God-fearing husbands and wives allow God to lead the marriage according to how He sees fit. God is the one who created marriage, and so knows how it should be. God-fearing spouses know very well to trust in Him for it.

That said, I would want to encourage all spouses out there. Choose to fear the Lord more than anything else, even your spouse. Why? Here are a few benefits that having a God-fearing spouse brings to the marriage.

1) God's will is prioritized

Many marriages today go haywire and crash in divorce simply because the focus is not on God but in something else. The husband is so self-absorbed, while the wife is longing for her husband's love. When this problem is not solved, more issues arise.

God-fearing spouses, on the other hand, continually seek God's will for every day of their lives together. They know that God will never lead them to somewhere they shouldn't be (see Psalm 23).

2) God's character pervades the home

God-fearing spouses will seek to follow Christ in all they do, including how they treat their spouses and their family. As such, God's loving, merciful, gracious, righteous and just character is able to permeate every dealing in the home.

To some, this might seem far from reality, but it's true. I believe it. Consider how God-fearing wives will win their unbelieving husbands according to Peter:

"Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear." (see 1 Peter 3:1-2)

3) God's word will prevail in the home

I know that sounds like a proud claim, but the word of God will never fail. No matter what happens to the family, when a spouse fully puts his trust in the Lord God, he will never be put to shame. Consider what the word of God promises to every Christian who believes in Christ:

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (see Acts 16:31)

God will never turn His back on His words. He will always fulfill them. God-fearing spouses, then, will never stop believing and praying for the salvation of their loved ones. They will follow Christ's command to preach the Gospel to all creation, starting from home.
