As a tool for gaining knowledge about God's character, the Bible is invaluable. It's a great place to begin our discovery of God's nature as it gives us an insight into the way God feels about his people, how he interacts with them over time, what his role is in our lives and how we should engage with him. By reading the Bible, we can consolidate our understanding of God's character with our own personal experiences of him. There are a wealth of examples which we can draw upon to illustrate the various facets of God's personality. In addition to other attributes, the Bible teaches us that God is loving, all-powerful, good and omnipresent. Here are some verses which expand on these four characteristics and reveal the nature of the God of the Old and New Testament.

Loving

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:19 – We love because he first loved us.

2 Corinthians 1:4 – Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

All-powerful

Isaiah 26:4 – Trust in the Lord for ever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the rock eternal.

Ephesians 3:20 – Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

Genesis 1:3 And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light.

Good

Mark 10:18 – 'Why do you call me good?' Jesus answered. 'No one is good – except God alone.'

Psalm 86:5 – You, Lord are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call you.

1 Timothy 4:4 – For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.

Omnipresent

Proverbs 15:3 – The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Psalm 139:7-8 – Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

Jeremiah 23:24 – 'Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?' declares the Lord. 'Do I not fill heaven and earth?' declares the Lord.
