Sony Xperia Z5 release date: Specs to feature changes to iconic smartphone

Sony Xperia Z4 UltraSony

Sony did not reveal the Xperia Z4 at the Mobile World Congress so it was assumed that there wouldn't be a second flagship series released this year. The Xperia Z4 is expected to come out in Japan by summer of this year but Android Origin reported that Sony will be releasing the Xperia Z5, Z5 Ultra, and Z5 Compact before 2015 is over.

According to the report from Android Origin, Sony is aiming to release the Xperia Z5 by the fourth quarter of this year. This has fans speculating that the device may come out by December. However, the report also stresses that the new phone series may be delayed until early 2016 in order to coincide with the release of the new Snapdragon 820 chipset.

The Snapdragon 820 processor will reportedly power the Z5 so it is very likely that Sony will be waiting for its release instead of releasing underpowered devices.

The Latino Post reports that many of the new updates and changes will be directed toward the Xperia Z5 Ultra's 6-inch display. Taking cue from the Sony BREVIA television sets, the Z5 Ultra will now feature a unique clean front face that utilizes a frosted glass effect.

Sony's logo will no longer be visible on the front side of the phone. The report explains that it will be moved to the side, ensuring that the front face of the new phone will be clean and usable. According to the report, the Z5 will drop the design of older Xperia phones and instead go for a very new, sleek and angular design.

Android Origin points out that the Z5 Ultra will be Sony's first device to utilize Qualcomm's Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology. The feature is said to be exclusive to the Z5 Ultra and not to the regular Z5 and Z5 Compact.

Other improvements include a 4 GB RAM as well as new camera sensors.
