Samsung Galaxy Note 3 receives Android 5.0 Lollipop update; Note 2 next

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 LTE started receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop, according to SamMobile. The model getting the update is the Galaxy Note N9005.

The Galaxy Note 3 powered by a Snapdragon 800 chipset is already receiving the update, which is not surprising since the N9000 version got the operating system upgrade already. Users of the two Galaxy Note 3 variants will receive notifications that they need to tap to download the update over-the-air. If no notification is received, users can check the smartphone manually on the Settings > General > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates. Galaxy Note 3 users can also update their devices via KIES by simply plugging the device and launching the KIES.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update is over 600 MB in size. Google claimed that it is Android's largest and most important operating system update, and it packs the new Material Design user interface as well as security and performance improvements. Specifically, new added and improved features are heading to updated devices like Smart Lock, Screen Pinning, Android Runtime, multi-user support for phones, dynamic status bar, redesigned notifications bar, card-based interface for the Recents screen, among others. On top of the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, the Galaxy Note 3 will come with Samsung's unique TouchWiz UI.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is also confirmed to receive the Lollipop OS. The update is reportedly rolling out in Poland first. However, there is no commitment on the actual release date and there is a possibility that the plans will be shelved should any difficulty arise. The Galaxy Note 2 was released in 2012 and is over two years old, prompting some people to doubt if it will receive Android 5.0.

Users are recommended to have at least 50 percent battery capacity and strong Wi-Fi connection if they decide to update to Lollipop.
