Salvation Army’s ALOVE Prepares for Youthwork Partnership Conferences

The Salvation Army’s youth ministry – ALOVE – will be helping in its alliance with ‘Youthwork – the partnership’, as it announces that it will be holding its annual conference across two venues this year; one in Southport from 11-13 November, and Eastbourne from 18-20 November.

The spilt conference has been agreed to make the event more accessible for the wider audience the ministry is now attracting.

This year the theme of the conference will be ‘Youthwork – Why do we do what we do?’ The event will proceed via a variety of seminars, worship celebrations and addresses by leading youth work practitioners.

It is hoped that delegates will be able to come and explore what successful is and how it can be measures.

Conference organisers have been busy in preparations already, and in the lead up to the event, to get an idea of how youth workers feel about their work, it has been arranged for a simple online survey to be posted up. Through this survey it is hoped that delegates will be able to give an insight into their lives and feelings, and that the topic of the conference can be brought out and promoted.

The Youth and Student Team Leader at Spring Harvest said of the survey, “With this survey, we want to gain a greater understanding of youth work across the UK and how issues such as good practice, accountability and tension are dealt with.”

The surveys will be used to compile data, and therefore create a basis of content that will be relevant to youth workers for the two seminars at the conference.

ALOVE has announced that it will be holding a special reception at the conference for youth workers and those that are interested in The Salvation Army’s work. ALOVE is one of a number of organisations that go towards making up ‘Youthwork – the partnership’.

Janet Miles, who is the Information and Resources Officer for ALOVE UK said, “Youthwork – the conference is one of the ways we are seeking to resource Salvation Army youth work during the year. Whether someone is involved in full-time, part-time or voluntary youth work, the conference has something for everyone. We really hope as many youth workers from The Salvation Army will come along and benefit from the variety of resources it provides.”
