R&B singer Brandy is 'vessel for God' as she lends her voice to Kirk Franklin's The Walls Group

Top-selling R&B singer Brandy will appear on the new album by gospel quartet The Walls Group, set for a Sept. 2 release.

Ms. Norwood will appear on the single "God on My Mind," a smooth track that celebrates having a mind that stays on the Lord.

The Walls Group  was the first act signed to Kirk Franklin's label, Fo Yo Soul Entertainment, and released their debut album in 2012. Their upcoming album, "Fast Forward" contains soulful, contemporary gospel songs that highlight the siblings' distinctive harmonies.

Brandy is working on a new album as well. Her last release, 2012's "Two Eleven, " was a commercial and critical success, but Brandi said she is now more concerned with the quality of her music than selling records and getting number one hits.

"I'm so excited about the next album," she told Oprah on OWN's "Where Are They Now."

"I just don't care about hits or fitting in. I just wanna be whatever I'm supposed to be.... Not think about all of the things that don't really matter. I just wanna be as truthful as I can in my music."

Brandy has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, and her six studio albums have had varying degrees of success. She admitted to Oprah that at times, she has conformed to other people's expectations of her.

"I think that's been my problem," she said. "The moment I started to try to fit in, I lost my way.

"Now you're finding it?" Oprah asked.

"I'm finding it," Brandy affirmed.

Oprah also asked the 35-year-old what lesson it took her the longest to learn.

"That it's not about me," she answered. "I'm just a vessel for God."

"When you're young it's all about fame. It's about being popular or recognition.

"Now it's about service. It's a different thing."
