It's been a long time since fans saw the last of "Prison Break," but to their delight the show was picked up for another season.

According to Glamour Magazine, the series will be back with its fifth season many years after it last aired in 2009, as confirmed by FOX.

The report further mentioned that the series will be brought back to celebrate the network's "big anniversary." This anniversary would likely feature more FOX series getting a revival.

Fan favorites Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, played by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, respectively, will also return to the series.

The Christian Post reported that rumors suggest Scofield's wife, Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies), will also come back to reprise her role for the fifth season. It was also speculated that Callies will most likely return because the last time fans saw her, she was pregnant.

Season 5 may pick up on this story and focus on Scofield's new family. Then again, it's hard not to wonder how the show will continue knowing that Scofield died back in season 4.

Although not a lot of details about season 5's plot has been shared, it is said to be more of a sequel, as revealed by FOX Television Group top executive, Dana Walden.

"I would describe it as a bit of a sequel," Walden said, during a press tour. "It picks up with the characters several years after we left them in the show. The brothers will be back."

Meanwhile, other characters rumored to return for "Prison Break" season 5 are Roberty Knepper as Theodore Bagwell, Amaury Nolasco as Fernando Sucre, and William Fichtner as Alexander Mahone.

FOX has yet to announce an official release date for "Prison Break" season 5. But as Glamour reported, the series is expected to make its return to U.S. screens come March 2016.
