Hearts were broken when Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) died in the fourth season of "Prison Break" back in 2009. But it seems like Scofield's "death" only opened a bigger story that will be featured when the series resumes for season 5.

Scofield and his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) will return to the small screen to continue their story in a 10-episode limited series.

But how can the structural engineer with low latent inhibition return if he already died in season 4?

Fox Television Group Co-Chairperson/CEO Dana Walden revealed during an interview with Deadline that the upcoming "Prison Break" mini-series will offer "a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world."

The studio executive also revealed that the upcoming installment of "Prison Break" will center on the events happening several years after the end of season 4. "The brothers and some of the iconic characters will be back, and it will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience," Walden added.

According to fan theories, Scofield could have chosen to fake his own death and wait for four years before going through another brain surgery to get rid of his tumor. He could be possibly assisted by Paul Kellerman (Paul Adelstein) to pretend that he already passed away so he can protect his wife Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies).

Michael and Lincoln may be missed by their avid TV viewers, but Miller and Purcell can still be seen together on TV since the duo also appears in The CW superhero series "The Flash" as villains Captain Cold and Heat Wave, respectively. They will also reprise their roles in another superhero series called "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," where villains like them will be commissioned to save the world.

"Prison Break" mini-series is slated to premiere later this year.
