Nexus 4

Google's Nexus 5 may be the next new rival for the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Recently leaked benchmark tests show that Google's next smartphone reigned in the graphics department. The phone reportedly outperformed the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4 and other top Android phones in gaming simulations. The device reportedly clocked in with a score of 23.1 framers per second, outperforming the Sony Xperia Z1, LG G2, the Galaxy S4, HTC One and Apple''s iPhone 5.

The all new iPhone 5S reportedly had an identical score with the Nexus 5. The latest results come from a powerful Adreno 330 GPU that the next generation Nexus handset is slated to pack. The graphics chip may be what shoves the Nexus 5 into the same league as the iPhone 5S.

Here are eight things to know about the upcoming Nexus 5 device, which is rumored for a mid-October launch.

  1. The mid to high-range phone will pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor chip
  2. It will have a 5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 resolution using Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology
  3. A 13 megapixel camera with unique shooting features/ 2 megapixel front-facing camera
  4. 2 or 3 GB of RAM
  5. 2700mAh battery
  6. The device will be running on the all new Android Jelly Bean 4.4 KitKat mobile operating system.
  7. The device will be built by LG, rumored to be based off of the LG G2
  8. Finally, it will pack its secret weapon - the Adreno 330 GPU

Google's Nexus 4 was popular due to its mid-range specs and budget price. An unlocked and no-contract version of the phone was only $299.

Expect the Nexus 5 to be more of a mid-range to high-end phone as it competes with the likes of Samsung and Apple's flagship devices this year. Consumers are hoping that Google will offer the Nexus 5 with the same budget price as its predecessor, but that is yet to be known.

Google's Nexus 5 is highly anticipated and is one of the last major phones expected to be released before the end of 2013.
