According to a report from Mobile N Apps, Microsoft may be unveiling the Surface Pro 5 this October. However, this is speculated to be a pure presentation to showcase the specs and capabilities of the tablet but it won't actually be released until sometime in 2017.

Whether it launches in October or in early 2017 it will be in direct competition with the Apple MacBook Pro which is seeing a new updated version launching around the same time.

It will also be in competition with the iPad Pro 2 which is rumored to be launching this October or November as well. Both are high-end tablets and will feature the most advanced versions of their respective company's mobile OS such as Windows 10 and iOS 10.

However, the Surface Pro 5 is reportedly being delayed as the device is speculated to utilize the upcoming Kaby Lake processor from Intel. The upcoming chip is a more advanced processor that gets the same amount of processing data done with less the required hardware, making it faster and more efficient.

The Kaby Laky processor is not launching until early 2017 and this is primarily the reason for the delay for the Surface Pro 5 but the report also states that Microsoft is also waiting for the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update, also coming out in early 2017, which will significantly overhaul Windows 10 with new features.

Several rumors have surfaced regarding the capabilities of the Surface Pro 5. Some of these suggest it will come with a rechargeable Surface Pen, an improved display that supports 4K resolution and 16 GB of RAM.

It is important to take note Microsoft has not commented regarding any of these rumors and the release date of October or early 2017 is still but a rumor. Microsoft has yet to make any official announcement regarding a big event to unveil their new products although the company is expected to host one this October.
