'Madam Secretary' season 3 spoilers: balancing act for Elizabeth between the White House and her family

Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) will find herself caught in the middle of work and family problems when "Madam Secretary" returns for season 3.

At the end of the second season, Elizabeth was caught off-guard when she surprisingly received an offer from President Dalton (Keith Carradine) to run with him as vice president of the United States in the next election.

If Elizabeth will take the offer, this could mean that her hands will be full because of all her new duties in the White House. This could cause a rift in her marriage with her husband, Henry (Tim Daly). However, speculations claim that the fights between the McCord couple will be mended by an event in Jason's (Evan Roe) school.

Meanwhile, CBS teased what fans should look forward to in the next season of the political drama thriller. According to the network's website, Elizabeth will push for President Dalton's campaign for re-election, but his campaign will be compromised because of a suggested change in foreign policy due to climate change.

On the homefront, both Henry and Elizabeth will get alarmed after they feel that their family is being watched following a series of events that haunted their 13-year-old son Jason.

The premiere episode of season 3 will also feature the return of executive producer Morgan Freeman, who will reprise his role as Chief Justice Wilbourne.

The character was first introduced during the show's second season premiere last year when Elizabeth was forced to take the Presidential oath of office when the president's plane suddenly disappears in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Yet there are no details released about what the chief justice will do upon his return this season. Just like the second season premiere, Freeman will also direct the premiere episode for season 3.

"Madam Secretary" season 3 begins on Sunday, Oct. 2, on CBS.
