Knitters at the ready to raise funds for charity

Coventry Cathedral is playing host to a band of knitters with their sights set on breaking the world record for knitting.

The Knitathon at Coventry Cathedral is taking place on Thursday to raise money for BBC Coventry & Warwickshire’s Myton Nurse Appeal.

Funds raised by the appeal will go towards recruiting more nurses.

Last year’s knitathon set a new European record with more than 700 people knitting in one place.

Organiser Vic Minett said: “We’d really love to break our own record at least and perhaps even have a crack at the world record, although that’s a massive ask as it’s 1,100 people.

“Our main hope is that we raise loads of money for our Myton Hospice appeal and have loads of fun at the same time.

“I’ve never laughed so hard in my life as I did at last year’s event, so here’s hoping this year is as good.”

Participants are being asked to donate a minimum of £5 to the appeal.

The cathedral doors open for the event at 17:45 BST.
