'House of Cards' season 4 spoilers: A couple that mirrors Frank and Claire to be introduced

House of Cards Season 4Netflix

"House of Cards" season 3 toned down on the political aspect of the show and focused on the relationship of Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright). Season 4 is touted to shift back to the political side and focus on the Presidential elections but will also introduce a new young couple that mirrors Frank and Claire.

According to a report from TVLine, season 4 is set to feature a powerful couple similar to the Underwoods but are "younger and more British." No actors have been announced for the two new characters who still remain a mystery at the time of writing.

However, according to a report from the IBTimes, it is likely that the couple will be the U.K. Prime Minister and his wife. After all, the Netflix series "House of Cards" is based on a British series of the same name and this inclusion of the U.K. Prime Minister would be a very neat "wink-and-nod" tribute to the original series.

The report does cite that this is only speculation and Netflix has given no official word yet regarding who the two new characters are.

A report from MovieFone states that the new duo might serve as a rival to Frank's campaign even though they are not directly going to be his enemies in the Presidential campaign. According to the report, Frank and Claire might even be forced to join together once more just to defeat their new rivals, given their competitive nature.

Season 4 will focus on Frank Underwood's second run for President of the U.S. now that the elections are coming up. However, the previous season ended with Frank and Claire separating and the report questions if Frank can still perform as he has thus far without Claire by his side.

"House of Cards" season 4 will premiere early 2016. According to MovieFone, it is likely that the series will premiere in February given that previous seasons have all been released in February every year.
