In the build up to Christmas this year, the Evangelical Alliance has produced a special edition Advent Prayer Guide that is hoping to inspire, and bring about a new vision of respect to Britain.
This year’s sales have been enormous, and have proved to be the most popular in Evangelical Alliance history, with more than 46,000 copies sold and with sales still remaining consistent.The amazing demand for the evangelical prayer guide has challenged the view of a large number of local councils who have gone out of their way to try and take ‘Christ’ out of Christmas, report the Evangelical Alliance.
The local authorities have begun the drive to take Christian and Biblical themes out of Christmas this year across many regions in the UK, due to fears that they might cause offence to religious minorities as well as activists.
A number of leading Christians, as well as various leaders of other faith groups have already stated that they believe the trend in the western world to deny its Christian roots is not a good sign.
The Evangelical Alliance has pointed out that to an extent the huge sales of their special advent guides challenge this opinion to deny Christmas its obvious roots.
The A5-sized guide encourages prayer for the police forces, as well as for asylum seekers and the environment. It has been extremely popular selling at the special price of just £1.90 for ten copies.Associate Director of Communications at the Evangelical Alliance, Allen Moxham said, “We are delighted that the Advent Prayer Guide is selling so well. The fact that sales are increasing indicates that people are hungry to bring the heart of the gospel into Christmas, not take it out.
“We thought the Advent Prayer Initiative, which has been going since 2000, had reached its height in 2004, revealing a clear increase in a desire and need for prayer across our nation, and across our world. But this year’s sales have exceeded expectation again.”
2005 is the sixth year that the Evangelical Alliance has published its special Advent Prayer Guide, which has always looked to focus prayer on a key value within society.
This year the focus has clearly been set on the issue of respect, and to this goal, it offers tips and guidance on how to show respect to all types of people, including: non-Christians, disabled people, politicians, as well as other races.
The guide provides its readers with daily Bible readings, and reflects on key Biblical figures. From Nov. 27th till Dec. 24th the guide offers prayer points, and has been sent out to Evangelical Alliance members all over the UK.
