The Metmiqe Melekot Kidus Yohannes church first started meeting at St Peter’s Roman Catholic church in Roath, Cardiff, a year ago.

It marked the milestone with a service joined by around 100 people and led by priest Malake Fion Habte Marian in Ahmaric, Ge’ez and English, reports the BBC.

The service was followed by a reception in which traditional Ethiopian food was served.

During the service, the priest said a prayer of blessing for Wales and the church on its first anniversary.

“We are glad we can establish a church in Wales,” he was quoted by the BBC as saying.

"We welcome people from the wider community to come and celebrate with us.”

Metmiqe Melekot Kidus Yohannes church is part of the Orthodox Ethiopian Church.
