Duncan Smith to explore role of faith organisations in broken Britain

Conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith will explore the role of faith organisations in transforming local communities at the second Charities Parliament event on 3 June.

This is the second event held by the Charities Parliament, a Faithworks initiative. It follows the success of February's Charities Parliament with Jim Knight exploring the tension in the education system between a culture of League Tables and the Every Child Matters agenda.

The Charities Parliament programme includes lectures, briefings and debates which aim to inspire debate, dialogue and action between charities, social enterprises, faith groups, government and media.

The initiative was launched to create a place of debate, discussion, interaction and partnership for the voluntary sector with the aim of enabling more effective relationships with government and media specifically around the role of the church and other faith groups in public life, service delivery and social justice.

The June 3 event will give third sector organisations the opportunity to question and influence policy makers.

The former Conservative Party leader will speak from his major report, Breakthrough Britain, which was commissioned by Tory leader David Cameron to make policy recommendations to the Party on issues of social justice and gives insight into social policy under a future Conservative government.
