'Doctor Who' season 9 spoilers, latest update: The return of The Master

The ninth season of "Doctor Who" has been reported to debut on television screens sometime this fall, but no date has been announced by BBC America just yet. They did announce, however, that Michelle Gomez will return to the series to reprise her role as Missy / The Master. Executive producer Steven Moffat gave a statement to this effect.

He said, as quoted by BBC, "Everybody hide - Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she's straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they'd expect."

Gomez had this to say: "Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I'm delighted to be putting my lippie back on. I'm positively dying to see The Doctor again!"

Season 9 debuts with a two-part premiere. "The Magician's Apprentice" and "The Witch's Familiar" were written by Moffat and directed by Hettie MacDonald, who is credited for directing the immensely popular and Hugo award-winning episode titled "Blink."

In season 8, the return of The Master generated a slew of discussions among fans of "Doctor Who" around the world. Although some were happy to see The Master after a long period of absence, another section of the audience reportedly felt it was just Moffat's way of getting back at fans who have been begging for The Doctor to be cast as a female prior to Peter Capaldi being roped in for the role.

Apart from Gomez, another familiar face returning to the series is Jemma Redgrave, who reprises the role of Kate Stewart. Clare Higgins, Kelly Hunter, and Jaye Griffiths will also make appearances in guest roles.

BBC America is expected to announce the premiere date of "Doctor Who" season 9 in the very near future to end the wait for impatient Whovians all over the world.
