Catholics Open Doors to Share Faith

People from other faiths and none in the Harrow area of London will have the chance to find out more about the Catholic faith when local Catholic churches open wide their doors this weekend.

Roman Catholic churches in the Harrow area of London are to open wide their doors and welcome in people of all faiths this weekend for a series of events designed to share their faith.

The Open the Doors Festival runs from Friday until Sunday, reports Harrow Times, and has the support of the Archbishop of Westminster and head of the Roman Catholic Church in England, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor.

“The Catholic Diocese of Westminster is one of the most vibrant and culturally diverse faith communities in London,” he said.

"Open the Doors has been designed to allow the wider community to share in the in the life of our parishes.”

The weekend of events will offer non-Catholics in the local area the chance to come along and share in the experience of the life of Catholics and discover firsthand deeper insights into their beliefs and practices.

"It will be a weekend of joy and celebration,” said the archbishop.

"I warmly invite the people of Harrow to join in and discover for themselves the richness of the Catholic faith."

The programme of events will take place across three Catholic churches in the Harrow area and include an Open the Doors to Humanity ecumenical service.

St John Fisher's Church, Imperial Drive, North Harrow: Friday: a fish and chips quiz night; Saturday: a day of guided prayer followed by International Mass and refreshments: Sunday, a parish family picnic. Contact: Fr Kevin Jordan on 020 8868 7531 or harrownorth@rcdow.org.uk.

Church of St Theresa of the Child, Uxbridge Road, Hatch End: Friday: 7.30pm, Open the Doors to Humanity, ecumenical service; Saturday: 3.30pm the Carmelite Way, ecumenical service; Sunday: 4.30pm, the sacraments, exposition, penitential service, anointing the sick, confessions, personal ministry. contact: Alice Cowan on 020 8428 0302.
