BibleLands, a Christian agency working in the Middle East, is releasing £70,000 to support the emergency medical work of its partner, Al Ahli Hospital, in Gaza. This follows £10,000 sent in January.

Chief executive Nigel Edward-Few said that since the military operation in Gaza between December 2008 and January 2009, Al Ahli has continued to provide emergency and routine healthcare but new medical demands have arisen from the aftermath of the conflict.

He said that malnourishment among children and the elderly, more stress related illnesses and exacerbations of chronic conditions were a "real cause for concern".

"Al Ahli is organising medical outreach clinics to the most needy areas and individuals who cannot access other health services due to poverty, siege and a lack of transport," he said. "They are also distributing food packages and commodities to the most needy."

Daniel Burton, Chair of Trustees for BibleLands, added, "The release of these funds is a reflection of our long-term relationship with our partner, Al Ahli Hospital, and we will continue to provide support long after the emergency relief has left."
