'Agents of SHIELD' season 3 plot spoilers: to address Simmons' disappearance, might feature Secret Warriors

Agents of SHIELD season 3 ABC/Marvel

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." just aired its two-part finale and ended with a sudden cliffhanger. Right when it looked like the team won, Agent Jemma Simmons was suddenly absorbed by the Kree weapon the moment it activated. According to a report from IGN, Simmons isn't dead and that her disappearance will immediately be addressed in the show when it returns.

Executive producer Jeffrey Bell teased IGN by first indicating that Simmons is dead but immediately retracted the statement, calling it a joke and reassured them that Simmons will be making an appearance in season 3. According to his statement, the rest of the team will notice she's not around and won't waste time hunting for her.

While Agent Coulson lost an arm — as part of Marvel's inside joke and referrence to the "Star Wars" movies — he also told Skye that they are going to create a new secret team. He also used the codename "Caterpillar" which comic book fans will recognize as the same codename for the Secret Warriors.

When asked if the Secret Warriors will be in season 3 of the show, Bell replied that it is possible, especially with the Inhumans now working together with S.H.I.E.L.D. However, fans should not expect the team in the TV series to be the same as the one in the comics.

"We do our version of all these things so they may not be Secret Warriors but there's a whole lot of super-powered people fighting super-powered people," Bell told IGN. "That's not really what we do or what we can even do on a weekly series. But tipping our hats to that direction I think is something we're suggesting there in the new season."

In other words, they may be a different version of the Secret Warriors and they might not officially use the name but they will be the Secret Warriors in essence and design. Instead of using the members seen in the comics, such as Phobos, Druid, and Slingshot, they might use Skye (who is a Secret Warrior in the comics) and the Inhumans.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3 premieres this fall.
