Microsoft has already confirmed that there will be at least two new additions to its console systems. However, although they feature tweaks and improvements, the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio only serve as versions of the original Xbox One.
The new Xbox One S is already out, so its specs sheet is already confirmed to be better than that of the original console. According to Windows Central, instead of a higher version, the new Slim variant can be considered a side-grade to the current Microsoft platform. Although there are some tweaked improvements, most of the specs for the Xbox One S remain similar to the original Xbox One. However, there are marked changes, since the Xbox One S is admittedly at least 40 percent smaller in profile and design than its predecessor, and the onboard storage is also maximized to feature up to 2 TB' worth of data. The new Xbox One S is also power-efficient, since it already has a built-in power brick.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has yet to come out with confirmed details on its other console announcement, Project Scorpio. The console being a part of the Xbox One family remains to be seen. However, though there also huge upgrades and improvements reportedly planned for the new Microsoft platform, it is still considered as an in-between release, as Microsoft still has yet to unveil plans for a supposed "Xbox Two." According to industry observers, next-gen console follow-ups are still years away.
However, if Project Scorpio remains a "side-grade" to the Xbox One, it will still be leagues away from the current-gen console. Rumored specs and features include at least 6 teraflops of computing speed, and a specs sheet that will support specs-hungry, top-tier VR systems like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. In addition, the new Project Scorpio is expected to be fully compatible with Windows 10 platform. This means that cross-play feature is already native to the console, so gamers will only need one digital copy of a title but can play it on both console and PC platforms.
