'X-Men: Apocalypse' movie news: Nightcrawler to appear as Mystique's son?

Nightcrawler has appeared in the "X-Men" movie franchise, particularly in "X2: X-Men United." However, he was introduced as a mere mutant and not someone who has a relationship with any other mutants. But for X-Men fans who know the comics well enough, Nightcrawler is indeed the son of blue-skinned shape-shifter Mystique.

Now, there are rumors going around that Nightcrawler will be reintroduced in the movie "X-Men: Apocalypse" and will now be Mystique's son. For comic readers, fans know that the birth of Nightcrawler was a very important event for Mystique and it is essential in Mystique's story arc, given that she has become one of the major characters in the movie franchise.

Nightcrawler inherits Mystique's unique blue skin. However, he is not a shape-shifter, but rather, a teleporter. So the big question now is, will Jennifer Lawrence's character Mystique give birth in the next movie?

According to Venture Capital Post, the only problem is that old "X-Men" trilogy and the new one are all interconnected with the help of "X-Men: Days of Future Past." How would Nightcrawler be introduced now and would it still make any sense to do so?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bryan Singer shared, "I'm excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the '80s. Nightcrawler is a familiar character, and if he's born from Mystique in the movie, he'd be quite young (again, a "different [age]")." Singer has directed movies for both "X2" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

There is still no official word about the inclusion of Nightcrawler in the next X-Men movie. But Singer did share a few more details about "Age of Apocalypse" saying, "[The movie] won't necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I'm playing with."

He continued, "You won't feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we'll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You're dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"

Well, there's a long way to go before "X-Men: Age of Apocalypse" comes out, so expect a lot more news and speculations about it in the coming months.
