'Winds of Winter' release date rumors: similarities between George R.R. Martin's new book and 'Game of Thrones'

While the release of "Winds of Winter" still does not have a visible release date, book author George R.R. Martin said the sixth book of "A Song of Ice and Fire" will be parallel to the "Game of Thrones" TV show.

It has been six years since "A Dance with Dragons" was published, and since then only a concept cover art of the follow-up title is one thing that fans have used to hold their breaths. Since the show has had many key characters dead that are still alive in the books, "Winds of Winter" will be different in some ways but for the most parts, in-line with "Game of Thrones."

Back in July, Martin left a post in his LiveJournal that said, "I am still working on it, I am still months away." The book author is known to take his time when he writes his novels. While "A Dance with Dragons" was released this decade, the first book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series was published back in 1991 and had the title "A Game of Thrones."

Fans who follow Martin's LiveJournal started questioning the reality of his words when the author put his LiveJournal mood to "pleased." The cryptic status instantly made fans think that book six was actually finished because Martin would be the executive producer to another HBO series titled "Who Fears Death," and another one on SyFy titled "Nightflyers." On top of this, the writer will be very much involved with "Game of Thrones" spin-offs. With this busy schedule, Martin will virtually have no time to finish writing "Winds of Winter."

In another LiveJournal post, Martin said that until he finishes writing "Winds of Winter," he will not be writing any other story,

The final six episodes of "Game of Thrones" will start filming this month. With the scale seeming to be larger than any of the previous seasons, a spring 2019 air date will be a worst case scenario.
