Meanwhile, fans' questions about the sequel will reportedly be answered soon, as it is rumored that "Watch Dogs 2" will appear at this year's E3.
According to Game Rant's Cody Gravelle, one way to make the sequel more worthwhile than the first one is to shift its narrative away from main protagonist Aiden Pearce. The industry follower noted that while the first game has an impressive gameplay and premise, the original "Watch Dogs" fell short in character development.
Gravelle continued that Ubisoft may use Pearce again for the sequel, but only in a minor capacity, as he may serve as a mentor to the upcoming game's new protagonist. Meanwhile, the upcoming sequel will also need to feature new characters, new locations, and a deeper narrative.
Lance Roth of OnlySP also seems to be thinking along these lines, even calling "Watch Dogs 2" as a chance for Ubisoft to "remedy the mistakes of the original." In his editorial, Roth underscored that most modern games and franchises like "GTA" and "Assassin's Creed" motivate the players by engaging them in a deep and meaningful narrative. Given that fans expect "Watch Dogs 2" to provide an expansive world to roam, character development and an engaging story are very important to the players.
Meanwhile, as fans continue to make their own cases on how Ubisoft can make "Watch Dogs 2" better, not much is known about the upcoming game at this time. According to speculations, since Ubisoft already confirmed that the game will be released soon, with April 2017 at the latest, "Watch Dogs 2" may be showcased at big game events this year, starting with E3 2016 in June.
