"True Detective" is truly happening this year and is already being rumored to have a release date soon, or at least a release announcement. With the advent of the third season for the show, the cast list has been updated and features some fresh faces in Hollywood.

Joining Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle and his partner Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) are some of Hollywood's breakout artists, some familiar and have even appeared in AAA movies last year. Some are still in talks and have not yet been greenlit for the upcoming season.

One of the biggest stars in question to join the cast of "True Detective" season 3 is none other than Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in "Justice League." Fisher will be trading his futuristic machine body for the guise of Freddy Burns, the son of Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) and will be a new character.

Ali, on the other hand, has gained a lot of recognition in the past two years for his winning performance in the 2016 Best Picture winner "Moonlight." It can be recalled that Ali played the gangster and drug dealer named Juan who stood as a voice of reason for the protagonist, Ali won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the said film. Now he will be joining the cast of "True Detective" as a new character as well where will be playing as a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

Carmen Ejogo from "Alien: Covenant" has also been confirmed as part of the cast. She will be playing the role of a schoolteacher named Amelia Reardon. As Reardon, she will be helping Ali in an investigation for two missing children in the show's timeline.

Other new stars include Scoot McNairy as a character called Tom, Mamie Gummer as Lucy Purcell, Brandon Flynn as Ryan Peters, Michael Graziadei as Dan O'Brien and Stephen Dorff as Roland West. All these new stars will be seen in "True Detective" season 3 once it comes out sometime in 2019, as confirmed by HBO.
