With publisher Ubisoft announcing the game way back in 2013, this year's release of "Tom Clancy's The Division" had been eagerly anticipated. Are the first impressions of the game positive enough to keep players glued to it?
According to Polygon, one of the strengths of "The Division" is its mix of MMO gameplay and rich, story-oriented single-player campaigns. Gamers can check out both features independently, and switch between modes seamlessly. Arthur Gies writes, "... despite the MMO overtures, there is a story and important characters in 'The Division,' complete with cutscenes and some plot development that goes beyond the more passive presentation in many online RPGs."
As a testament to how "The Division" has been well-received so far, IGN reports that the combined figures from the title's digital and retailer copies shot up to $330 million in the first five days since its release. This makes "The Division" one of the fastest-selling games in their first week. Publisher Ubisoft has also confirmed that the game now holds the distinction of being the company's top-grossing title in terms of day-one sales.
The industry follower also mentioned that "The Division" had up to 1.2 million concurrent players online during its first weekend run, further proof of how its player base steadily grows.
With its continuing success, Ubisoft is thankful for the warm welcome that "The Division" got, and the continuous, growing support for the title. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, "'The Division' taking the top spot in the industry for first-week sales of a new franchise is a tremendous achievement. We are very proud of our teams, and humbled by and thankful for the millions of players who are giving us their feedback and support."
"Tom Clancy's The Division" rolled out last March 8 and is currently available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC.
