The undead are heading to Hollywood!

Latest reports say that AMC's spin-off series for "The Walking Dead" will be set in Los Angeles, California. It is still unclear, however, whether the filming will actually take place in LA or in a different city in the state.

The excitement for this spin-off, which is allegedly titled "Cobalt," began when AMC president Charlie Collier discussed with TVLine their plans of releasing another story based on their hit TV adaptation of the comic book.

"Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead [which is set in Atlanta], fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world," Collier said.

Aside from the different location, the new series' story and timeline will also be poles apart from the original series. It will also have a different set of characters.

Earlier reports about the spin-off already mentioned the first cast members of the show. The list includes "Harry Potter" star Frank Dillane as Nick, a young man with a drug problem. Nick's father, divorced teacher Sean Cabrera, will be played by Cliff Curtis, while his ambitious sister Ashley will be portrayed by "Into The Woods" actress Alycia Debnam Carey.

"The Walking Dead" is one of the most successful releases of AMC. Each season, there is an increase in the show's viewership, and the current one (season 5), holds the record for the most watched series in cable television of all time.

The original post-apocalyptic drama is based on the comic books series of the same title, created by Tony Moore, Robert Kirkman, and Charlie Adlard. It first aired on Oct. 31, 2010 in the U.S., while it was released internationally in November 2010 through Fox International Channels.

"The Walking Dead" season 5 is currently in winter hiatus, but it will return on Feb. 8, 2015 to air the remaining episodes of the season. The series' spin-off, on the other hand, is expected to premiere sometime in summer next year.
