'The Vampire Diaries' season 6: Steroline fans get ready

After two seasons of hints and romantic build-ups between "The Vampire Diaries'" Stefan Salvatore and Caroline Forbes, many are asking, is this going somewhere?

It all started way back in season four, wherein Caroline told Stefan that she will always be there when he is about to lose control a.k.a. his ripper tendencies. She has become his girl best friend especially on one of his darkest moments, when Elena was with his brother, Damon.

Moving forward to season five wherein Stefan had a brief memory loss, it was Caroline he felt he could trust the most. At the season 5 finale, after Bonnie and Damon's death, there was a quick yet touching "Steroline" moment when Stefan said he's there to care for Caroline as she was to him. With all this romantic intensity going on in the background, is "Steroline" going to be real this season six?

Not to disappoint those who are rooting for Stefan and Caroline, there are reports saying that this thing between the two might not move forward. Stefan is just not ready for a new relationship.  Besides, since day one, his love for Elena has been unconditional — one that "consumes." He's not crazy enough to start dating Elena's best friend.

But what's the point of setting up romantic moments in the last two seasons? There are also rumors that season six might be the last one for "The Vampire Diaries" since actress Nina Dobrev (Elena) and Ian Somerhalder (Damon) can't seem to make amends after breaking-up.

But who knows? Writers of the hit vampire TV show are well-known for their love of twisted plots and love triangles. Maybe there's still a chance for Stefan and Caroline these coming episodes as Elena is still pre-occupied with Damon's sudden death.
