"The Sims" franchise has been out on the PC for nearly two decades now, so console gamers were glad when the PlayStation (PS) 4 and Xbox One ports of the virtual reality game was released on Nov. 17. However, recent reviews reveal that it the experience is not the same, largely because of the clunky controllers.
A review released by The Verge highlighted the fact that the controllers cannot replace the accuracy and precision of a mouse, and these are not tailored for such a menu-heavy game. The author shared how it took weeks to minimize accidental deletions and accidental item selections. Furthermore, using the controllers to navigate the various menus need to customize the sim and its environment only led to frustration and boredom.
That said, the console version of the well-loved game allows players to finally share their game with friends as it is much easier to pass on a controller. In the PC versions, multiple users would have to share a keyboard and a mouse, not to mention a small computer or laptop screen.
For those unacquainted with the game, "The Sims 4" is the fourth installment in a wildly popular virtual reality game franchise, "The Sims." The first volume was released in 2000 to massive success as many people found joy in controlling every aspect of their character's, a.k.a. sim's, life.
The following volumes have further refined the graphics, controls, expansions, and options of the game, even adding several choices for a sim's aspirations, aging process, and skills. The current title, released for the PC last 2014, has over 4 expansion packs, 5 game packs, and 12 stuff packs.
In other "The Sims 4" news, a patch was released last week that fixes some major issues especially regarding the game's saves. The pet expansion is out for PC and will hopefully soon be rolled out to the console versions as well.
