The previously released installment in the latest "Star Wars" trilogy series — "Star Wars: Episode 7- The Force Awakens" — left a lot of questions regarding the relationships and the background stories of some of its characters. Several reports have already revealed different theories regarding these relationships, but seeing as that none of these reports have been confirmed yet, it's still anyone's guess.

Among the different new characters that were introduced in the brand new movie, the relationship between the movie's main protagonist, Rey, and her soon to be archenemy, Kylo Ren, seems to be the most interesting one. The upcoming next installment in the franchise — "Star Wars: Episode 8" — is expected to explore their connection in detail.

The movie's director — JJ Abrams — had brought up their relationship in an audio commentary that was included in "Star Wars: Episode 7- The Force Awakens" special Blu-Ray edition. Abrams mentioned that there was some sort of connection between the two characters, but fans would just have to wait for the next installments to find out.

Several reports have pointed out that it is highly unlikely for the relationship between the two characters to be a romantic one as both characters haven't met under the best circumstances. Rey's origins have not yet been fully revealed so it may be possible that she is related to Kylo Ren in some way.

Some theories have also claimed that Rey may be the one to get Kylo Ren back into the light side, to make him into Ben Solo once again.

The previous movie had revealed that both characters met the first time in the forest where they eventually fought near the end of the first movie. However, it may be possible that Rey had met Ben Solo at some point in the past and that they could have been childhood friends. These are, of course, mostly still theories about their likely connection so fans would just have to wait and see if these theories are accurate.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" is scheduled to hit theaters next year on December 15, 2017.
