Fans of the "Star Trek" games, especially the game "Bridge Crew," can now rejoice, as the game will no longer be exclusively available to Virtual Reality (VR) users. As much as the VR provides a lot of immersion to the game, it appears that many fans have been wanting to have a non-VR version. Fortunately, their prayers have been answered.
Developers Red Storm of Ubisoft rolled out an update recently, and to many fans' surprise, its patch notes highlighted them removing the VR exclusivity. Following this, they have also made a lot of noticeable visual changes, seen in both VR and non-VR versions.
In addition, players using either version of the game will also be able to play with each other. This makes players of the game much relieved. Since the game was previously only playable through the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, or the HTC Vive, it was quite hard for players to find three other gamers with whom to play the VR game. The update pretty much tackled a lot of problems for its fans, as it also now allows cross-platform play, allowing PC players to join in with PS4 players and vice versa.
For them to make this move, and for free, fans have speculated that Red Storm and Ubisoft are probably leaving the game now open for many players since they will be abandoning ship. However, according to PC Gamer, the game's creative director David Yotypka mentioned that there will definitely be more updates for the game.
Making the game non-VR capable is not a new move. This was previously done with "Eve: Valkyrie," where the developers also lifted the exclusivity for VR. CCP Games, its developer, released the update a few months ago, not only making the game available for consoles but also uniting both the PS4 and the PSVR players, allowing them to join each other's games.
That said, it would not be surprising if the "Star Trek"-themed game gets more purchases in the following days. "Star Trek: Bridge Crew" was only released back in May, but its popularity was limited to the VR users.
