'Star Trek Beyond' rumors: Sulu's daughter an important part of the story? New ship to be introduced?

Although the next installment in the franchise reboot of "Star Trek" will not be released until the middle of the year, fans can't help but check out how things will unfold in "Star Trek Beyond." Latest speculations suggest that at an old character may return and be integral to the plot and that a new ship will be introduced.

An exclusive report by Entertainment Online revealed that the upcoming movie is set two years after the crew sailed into deep space, and because of homesickness, the strain is showing for some of the crew. Interestingly, the statement by actor John Cho may have subtly hinted that Hikaru Sulu (his character) and his family may play a big part in the story.

Cho said, "Sulu has a heartache for his little baby. [He] had brought his picture to his console, which technically, we've been saying, it's unprofessional. It's in the way of the buttons."

Cho added that there will be "another revelation" about Sulu's child and that "...you'll have to wait and see the movie."

If the upcoming film is a nod to the classic "Star Trek" timeline, then Sulu's daughter is already a part of the series. According to Movie Pilot, the daughter will grow up to be Demora, who, in the franchise, followed her father's footsteps into the Starfleet as the helmsman of Enterprise-B. Demora first appeared in the 1994 movie "Star Trek Generations."

Meanwhile, the upcoming "Star Trek Beyond" is also whispered to introduce a new ship for the crew. Fans who have grown up with the franchise will cringe as it is revealed that the film will see the Enterprise badly damaged; it is unclear whether it could still be repaired. However, according to TrekCore, official concept art and hints from the first trailer released for the film have shown that there is still hope for the crew, as "Star Trek Beyond" will see them aboard the U.S.S. Franklin.
