Still fresh from his role as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in the recent "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi," Hamill is back at it again with a new science-fiction role.
This time around, Hamill will be bringing the video game character Lieutenant Commander (Lt. Cdr.) Steve "Old Man" Colton to life in the upcoming million-dollar indie game "Star Citizen." This may not come as a shock to patrons and fans of the game, but it was not until recently that progress has been shown regarding the 3D render of the character, complete with Hamill's likeness and voice.
A feature video has also been shown by IGN and features the character finally being given form and substance by Hamill. The video showcases Hamill playing a grumpy but venerable commander, not unlike his role in the current "Star Wars" trilogy. Lt. Cdr. Colton is portrayed as a meticulous and assertive leader of a space navy who makes sure no mistake goes by unattended in his ships.
Meanwhile, the players will be taken under the wing of Colton where he will also serve as a de facto mentor for the player character. It does, however, seem than Colton is quite callous regarding his crew, perhaps due to the number of men he lost, making him withdrawn to any new attachments. So much so that his basic introduction to the players goes, "You want me to learn your name? Do what I say and live long enough for me to care."
The video also appears to be the beginning of the story mode for the game where the players get introduced to the characters and the game world, or in this case, space.
Hamill was quite enthusiastic about the character despite its blunt behavior and harsh teaching methods due to the fact that his father was in the navy. Hamill admitted that he knew a lot of guys like Colton, who are no-nonsense anti-social mature men who resent younger ones, making him familiar with the role already.
Fans of both Hamill and "Star Citizen" will get to see him in action once the game gets released in the near future.
