Sony Xperia X F8331 release date, specs: Next Xperia flagship to roll out as Xperia XR?

The Xperia X Performance Sony Mobile

Speculations suggest that Sony is readying another flagship release this year. Previously leaked as the Xperia X F8331, it is said that the new flagship addition will be branded as the Sony Xperia XR.

According to Phone Radar, inside sources claim that that new flagship will be part of the Xperia X series and will come out as the Xperia XR. While the claim remains unsubstantiated, it can be recalled that the previous Xperia Z also came out with its flagship addition, the Xperia ZR. It is more than likely that another iteration brand is included in the new lineup. Meanwhile, although Sony has already confirmed that it will be attending the 2016 IFA event, it has yet to come out with its showcase plans. This leads to rumors that the so-called Xperia XR will make its debut at the trade event. The IFA 2016 is scheduled for Sept. 2 to 7 in Berlin.

Meanwhile, although the new Sony Xperia X F8331 remains unofficial, supposed leaks are already making their rounds online. Design-wise, the new Xperia XR deviates completely from the previous Xperia Z series, since the curved edges only tapered off on the sides, while the top and the bottom remain flat. Meanwhile, the back panel also receives and update, since it can be glimpsed that it will be made of brushed aluminum, and the main camera will have dedicated, dual-LED flash. It can also be expected that the upcoming flagship will have a slimmer profile, since Sony may have decided to adapt a USB Type-C port at the bottom. Meanwhile, the 3.5 mm audio jack remains on its signature spot at the top.

There are no rumored specs available yet for the upcoming Sony Xperia X F8331. If the new iteration is indeed a flagship device, fans can expect a top-tier Snapdragon processor (presumably the recently-announced SD 821), and at least 4GB of RAM.
