The Samsung Premiere 2013 event will take place in London at 2 p.m. ET. The tech giant's launch event for the new Galaxy and ATIV devices will be available to watch online via live streaming, allowing fans all over the world to see the unveiling of the new Galaxy variants and ATIV smartphones and ultrabooks.
The Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Zoom, and Galaxy Ace 3 are among the Galaxy variants expected during today's live event.
The Galaxy S4 Active will come with many of the same specs and features as the original Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, but will have a significantly changed exterior to make it dust tight and waterproof. Designers have attempted to make the new smartphone resistant to any type of external environment that users may encounter.
Earlier this month, JK Shin, CEO and President of IT and Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said: "The Galaxy S4 Active is the newest addition to the Galaxy series and is purposefully designed for active users who love the outdoors. Samsung has taken the innovative features of the Galaxy S4 and added breakthrough protective design elements to create a device that thrives in an active environment and is build for a lifestyle of travel and exploration."
The phone will be able to be submerged in water up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes, according to new reports this week. Meaning even if the phone is dropped into a puddle or a bathtub it should easily be able to survive.
The earphone jack will also be water resistant, and water should not affect the usage of the earphones. Users are assured they should be able to take the device to the swimming pool or even boating with the smartphone able to survive even the biggest splashes.
Some fantastic features will also be coming with the new phone, and confirmed specs for the S4 Active will be a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2,600mAh battery, and a 5-inch Full HD TFT LCD screen (443 ppi).
A special new feature will also be introduced called the "Glove Touch," which should allow users to operate the touch screen even if they are wearing gloves in the winter.
The 8-megapixel camera will be able to be used underwater using a new feature called Aqua Mode. Part of that feature will allow the volume buttons to double up as camera buttons, helping users to take photos more quickly and easily.
The phone should be available on Verizon as well as all the other major U.S. carriers including Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile. It is expected to be released later this summer.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom is expected to be a hybrid of a smartphone and camera. The device is already available for pre-order in the UK, but not in the U.S. The hybrid phone does not have the high specs of the Galaxy S4 model, but still comes with a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960 x 540. It comes with a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and 1.5 GB RAM. It also has a 10x Optical Zoom on its rear camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3, a budget Samsung phone, is also expected to make an appearance at today's event. It will come with a 1GHz dual-core processor for its 3G model and a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor for its LTE model. The screen size is 4 inches with a 480 x 800 LCD display.
