While fans are already gearing up for an Aug. 2 announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, observers are also speculating on when the South Korea-based tech giant will reveal the follow-up to the current-gen Galaxy S7 flagship. Speculations suggest that the Galaxy S8 may be expected early next year.
According to rumors, since Samsung has habitually unwrapped past Galaxy S-series flagships in the Mobile World Congress, it can be expected that the Galaxy S8 will appear as Samsung's flagship showcase at the 2017 MWC, either by February or early March. Meanwhile, aside from the Galaxy S8, it is said that Samsung is gearing up for major announcements in their smartphone flagship lineups, including the first-ever foldable phone, the Galaxy X.
Meanwhile, although some of the recent supposed leaks are about the Galaxy Note 7, there are already alleged sightings and supposed specs of the next Galaxy S-series iteration. According to Forbes, one purported feature that will be prominent for the Galaxy S8 is a 4K UHD display. While the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge already have "the best smartphone displays" due to their OLED displays, the industry follower surmised that Samsung maybe upping the ante, since it is reported that its fiercest rival, Apple, will be switching to OLED displays starting with the iPhone 7.
Although the design will very much be like the signature form and chassis for the Galaxy S8, it is said that the specs and features will most likely be cutting-edge. Aside from the 4K UHD display, it is also expected that the Galaxy S8 will ship out with the latest Exynos and/or Snapdragon chipset – possibly the same processors as in the Galaxy Note 7 – and with at least 4GB of RAM, while a top-tier edge variant may come out with a 6GB one. Meanwhile, other expected specs include dual-cam setup, beefed-up battery, and even Android N Daydream support for VR content.
