Samsung Galaxy S7 specs: New images of device show microUSB, not USB Type-C

The Galaxy S6 has microUSB connectivity. Instead of switching to the newer USB Type-C standard, Samsung is said to have retained the feature for the upcoming Galaxy S7. Official Samsung website

While the leaked specs of the Samsung Galaxy S7 seem impressive, the latest images of the device confirm a small detail of the upcoming Samsung flagship that caught the eye of some observers. While being a top-tier handset, the Galaxy S7 has microUSB connectivity instead of the expected USB Type-C.

According to Forbes, this bit of "bad news" is seen in supposed first images of a consumer version of the Samsung Galaxy S7. The industry follower said that this development will come as a disappointment – and shock – to some fans, since it is already expected that the Galaxy S7, being touted to have high-level specs, will favor the slimmer profile and higher-standard features of a USB Type-C connectivity, instead of the usual microUSB.

9to5Google is also surprised by this, mentioning that previous speculations did not see it coming. The industry follower added that according to their own inside sources, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is carrying a USB Type-C port, having seen some devices themselves. This led to speculations that like the device having two versions -- one with a Snapdragon 820 and the other a Exynos 8890 -- Samsung also decided to make both microUSB and USB Type-C versions depending on the region.

Android Community added that this scenario is entirely plausible, as Samsung may only be testing the waters for the USB Type-C connectivity. It being a relatively new feature, the South Korea-based tech giant may be waiting for the technology to be fully maximized first before adopting USB Type-C for the company's entire lineup.

While observers have already said that the Galaxy S7 will launch with microUSB port based on their supposed images, it remains to be seen if the entire Galaxy S7 lineup will indeed carry this feature across all iterations. Fans will have the chance to see for themselves if the story is true, as Samsung will reveal the Galaxy S7 this weekend to kick off the Mobile World Congress.
