Samsung Galaxy S7 specs, features: Exynos-powered Galaxy S7 performs better than version with Snapdragon 820?

 Samsung USA

Samsung has just launched its newest flagship series, the Galaxy S7. As a top-tier iteration, the flagship offers both the newest Snapdragon 820 SoC and Samsung's homegrown, cutting-edge Exynos 8890 chipset. Which processor goes with the device depends on the market location. However, there are speculations that while the two are both premium handsets, one performs better than the other.

According to SamMobile, the Snapdragon 820 variant available in the U.S. and China performs well on its own, based on comparison videos that appeared online. When compared side-by-side with its Exynos-equipped counterpart, the global release version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 appears to be more powerful in terms of speed and performance.

However, the industry follower said that this may only be on a case-to-case basis at this point, and the units that were tested are not representative of the entire lineup.

In addition, 9to5Google observed that the supposed side-by-side test is not an official one. It can also be seen in the footage that the Snapdragon 820 variant doesn't lag behind that much in terms of speed but only seconds behind the Exynos 8890 one.

It is unclear if the performance of the Exynos 8890 chipset is better than the Snapdragon 820 on all Galaxy S7 units. However, if this is proven true, it may have an impact on upcoming lineup releases. According to rumors, Samsung is thinking of rebooting the "Mini" series of the Galaxy and will start with a Galaxy S7 Mini. If the Exynos variant really performs better than the Snapdragon 820 one, the South Korea tech giant may push for an Exynos-only Galaxy S7 Mini.
