Samsung Galaxy S7 Active rumor: Samsung app may have inadvertently leaked upcoming Galaxy S7 addition

While the current Galaxy S7 lineup already enjoys water- and dust-proof rating, it is said that Samsung is going to come out with a tougher and more rugged version of its current flagship iteration. Rumors about an upcoming Galaxy S7 Active seems to be getting more solid, as supposed "leaks" keeps on cropping up online.

According to SamMobile, Samsung may have accidentally confirmed that the Galaxy S7 Active is indeed coming out soon, based on details gleaned from a Samsung-connected app. The industry follower said that the Samsung Level app from the South Korea-based tech giant may have inadvertently listed the Galaxy S7 Active in one of the changelogs for the app.

Samsung started with its Active series for the flagship lineups back with the Galaxy S4's release in 2013, where being an element-proof device is still a novelty. After the Galaxy S4 Active was launched, succeeding releases of the Galaxy S-series flagships also came with Active variants, the latest being the Galaxy S6 Active.

However, Samsung has already incorporated water- and dust-proof rating certifications as features for the Galaxy S7 lineup. According to Engadget, since the South Korean tech giant already features an IP rating on the current flagship, the Galaxy S7 Active may instead offer a change in design, featuring a more rugged body, and increased IP rating. It may also jump from IP to a military-grade protection. In addition, Samsung may also opt to tweak some of the features of the current Galaxy S7 variant, like integrating a much higher battery capacity on the Galaxy S7 Active. Previously, Samsung did this with the Galaxy S6 Active, as the iteration offered a larger 3,500 mAh battery over the base model's 2,800 mAh one.

The new detail joins other supposed "leaks" about the Galaxy S7 Active, the flagship iteration itself remains unconfirmed, as Samsung is staying silent on the issue.
