Samsung had just introduced Galaxy Note Edge at the IFA 2014 conference in Berlin, and it has given smartphone and gadget enthusiasts something to talk about. Its unique curved edge is a new feature that has gotten people's attention – and it's not the same concept as the curved screen of the LG G Flex.

The device has a 5.6-inch Quad HD+ Super Amoled display that boasts 2560 x 1440 resolution, and the right edge of the screen curves toward the back. The thin strip of curved screen functions as a quick-access bar where users can place shortcuts to their frequently-used apps, alerts, notifications, and other icons.

GSM Arena further describes the curved side as useful for Twitter feeds, stock market tickers, time, flashlight, ruler, camera controls, video player controls – which keeps the main or flat portion of the screen clutter-free.

To maximize the potential of the new curved-side feature, Samsung offers a software development kit (SDK) for third-party app developers .

Apart from the curved edge and high-definition display, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge also boasts a 2.7GHz quad core processor, a 3GB RAM, and a 32- or 34GB internal storage expandable to 64GB using a microSD. It runs on the Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS, has a 3.7MP front-facing camera and 16MP rear-facing camera.

While the LG G Flex is almost a year old, the G Flex boasts features that are still competitive, such as a 6.0-inch display, 2.26GHz quad core processor, 32GB storage, Android 4.2 (Kitkat) OS, and 3500mAh battery.
