Rumors have suggested that Samsung is developing a fully foldable phone for release this year. However, recent news said that the South Korea-based tech giant is more likely to announce the development next year, along with four other flagship releases.
According to SamMobile, it is already expected that Samsung will launch their follow-up flagships in 2017. The flagships include the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Edge, Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 7 Edge. Samsung is also reportedly ready to unveil its first-ever foldable smartphone, dubbed the Samsung Galaxy X.
The Galaxy X is a true foldable phone, as allegedly, the new flagship can be folded in half just like a wallet. This is very different from the clamshell phones that were launched years back. In addition, the new Galaxy X is said to include top-notch features such as 4K display, and it is expected that its internals will also feature top-tier specs.
Although it remains as rumors to date, Samsung has already hinted at this 'foldable phone' by applying for numerous patents in the technology. In addition, the South Korea-based tech giant has also confirmed that there is a "Project Valley" in the works, and the project is said to be the development of the Galaxy X.
Meanwhile, as for the four follow-up flagships, the new additions are also expected to carry new technology, and not just upgraded internals. For one, it is said that the new Galaxy S-series and Galaxy Note follow-ups will feature Super AMOLED displays with RBG subpixels, making the screen resolutions having a minimum of 2.5K. It is also expected that the new flagships will be using next-gen Snapdragon and Exynos processors, as well as an appropriate RAM capacity (the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 is said to feature a 6GB RAM).
