Rosamund Pike is the new Hollywood "it" girl with her role as Amy Dunne in "Gone Girl." She is now the talk of the town, a dream come true for the English girl who always wanted to be a big Hollywood star.
Pike's most recognizable role to date is Miranda Frost in "James Bond: Die Another Day." She was 21 when she made the movie; and years later, at 35, she finally landed the biggest role of her career. In July 2013, Pike was called to play Amy Dunne. As they say, better late than never.
"I've always been given roles that are more mature than I am," said Pike in an interview with Variety. "Now it could be that it'll all start reversing, and I'll stay around 30."
According to Variety, her character is one of the "most coveted roles" in Hollywood today. Pike plays a perfect wife who suddently disappears, and the police suspects that her husband Nick murdered her. Reese Witherspoon and Olivia Wilde were said to have been chasing the role, but Pike was hand-picked by director David Fincher. And it looks like he made the right choice.
Pike and Fincher started talking through Skype for the role of Amy. That was when it all started. The director wanted Pike to truly understand her character, and when she was beginning to see Amy in her, that's when they met in person at St. Louis. She had to polish her accent, too.
Pike told the story of how sick she was before they started filming. She shared, "I've usually had the luxury of coming on a couple weeks into it," as she was used to doing supporting roles for years.
Then she said, "I've got to reach out to somebody who has been in this position," namely Tom Cruise, whom she worked with in "Jack Reacher." She emailed Cruise asking about pre-fame jitters. Cruise emailed her back and said, "Trust yourself. You're in the hands of a great director. You're ready."
Pike also went on to say that there were times she wanted to give up. She also said that making the movie was physically hard.
"I think probably around take 18 of getting my head bashed against the wall, I literally saw stars," she said.
"Gone Girl" is a highly anticipated movie. It is based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel, and director David Fincher has done magnificent work translating the book into the big screen. Pike acted alongside Ben Affleck, who plays her husband Nick Dunne, with Neil Patrick Harris taking the role of her obsessed ex-boyfriend Desi.
Right now, Pike is pregnant so she hasn't been available since after filming "Gone Girl." But something tells the movie-going public that it will all be fine, because once she gives birth, she will welcome a new baby and an entirely new career.
