Fans of the music simulation game "Rock Band" who have been waiting for almost five years for the next release only need to wait a little bit longer now, until October. According to U.K. games industry magazine MCV, the fourth installment of the franchise will be launched later this year.

Harmonix's product manager Eric Pope said that the company "built a brand new engine for Rock Band 4 to make the most of the new hardware."

"It's going to look 'next-gen' with more realistic lighting, character models, and animation," said Pope.

He also bared plans for the upcoming "Rock Band" title.

"It'll be 1080p and will run at 60fps," he told MCV. "I know there's a vocal group of players that want to hear that. But what to me is more exciting is the online infrastructure of the consoles. It will open a lot of opportunities for us to support the game in more reactive, timely ways."

"Rock Band 4" is the highly-anticipated fourth installment of the series, the latest in the franchise since "Rock Band 3" was released in 2010. There are numerous other titles connected with the series, like "Green Day: Rock Band" and "The Beatles: Rock Band." There are also downloadable "Rock Band" tracks available online.

No other concrete details are available for the latest "Rock Band" title, and Harmonix hasn't revealed specific dates for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 releases. The company also hasn't confirmed official song choices that will come with the latest title, but it promises that most of its existing playlists and other content from the previous game will be compatible with the newest edition, except for disc imports from "Rock Band" and "Rock Band 2."

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced that along with the new "Rock Band" title, another music simulation game, "Guitar Hero," will also make its return debut.
